..... offers a way to discover greater meaning and fulfilment in life through engaging with the whole person - body, mind, soul and spirit. It is based on an understanding that what you need for your healing and growth lies within you, and it seeks to empower you on your own journey by developing trust in your self and the wisdom of your body. In times of crisis, or if you feel depressed, anxious, dissatisfied with life, or are experiencing difficulties in your relationships it can be helpful to talk with someone who will listen with non-judgmental acceptance and compassion. Through exploring your feelings, needs and aspirations, you can come closer to the truth of your situation and move towards a greater sense of well-being and fulfilment in your life, work and relationships. This approach might use body awareness, breath, touch and movement to help you come back home into your body; this can be both nourishing and supportive, and can also help you access buried feelings. Unexpressed emotions can be held in the body, causing tension or pain and sometimes contributing to the development of ill-health. As habitual patterns in the body change through the therapeutic use of touch, movement and awareness, the mind also changes; emotions can flow more freely and greater openness, choice and spontaneity of being may be experienced. Dreamwork, imagery and dialogue might also be used to explore feelings, gain insight into problems, and integrate changes that are occurring, along with Authentic Movement, a practice which invites the unconscious to speak through movement. Birth and perinatal process are areas of special interest to me. The roots of current problems often go right back to the earliest experiences, which can leave powerful imprints on both body and psyche. Through the body and its own movement you may gain access to preverbal experiences, and work towards resolving early trauma and the physical and psychological patterns which have grown out of them. When we find ourselves engaged with our birth process, we are also exploring the potential for something new to be born within us in the present, as adults. An unknown quality or aspect of ourselves that has not yet fully emerged is seeking acknowledgment and expression. As adults this often relates to the life of soul or spirit. Integrative Body Psychotherapy which touches upon early and nonverbal experiences can open us to something greater than the limited sense we have of ourselves. As you discover and embody unknown aspects of your self, and acknowledge feelings and needs, a renewed sense of direction and purpose may emerge. You might be opened to more expansive states of consciousness which may shed new light on your problems, and can be deeply nurturing and healing. An initial session can be arranged to discuss your needs and see if this approach might be helpful for you. Sessions usually take place weekly and generally last for one hour. Sessions will be treated with the strictest confidentiality, and your safety respected at all times. |

... uses healing touch, body awareness, somatic movement therapy, and dialogue to help integrate body and mind, and generate a feeling of wellbeing and ‘at-homeness’ in your body, and in your life. The practice of Body-Mind Centering® is the basis of this approach; it offers a way to gently come back home into the body, to re-experience the integration of sensation, feeling, mind, and spirit that is yours by nature. You will learn to awaken awareness in your body through focussed touch, breath, guided imagery, and movement, allowing the innate cellular intelligence of the body to guide you; you may learn to trust again your body and its wisdom. Through sensitively guided movement, areas of tension and blockage can be released, and the core of inner support and strength experienced. As habitual patterns in the body change or become more flexible, the mind also changes, allowing for greater openness, choice, and spontaneity of being. Integrative Bodywork & Movement Therapy can help you to: · release tensions and relax mind and body · develop internal strength, coordination and graceful movement · prevent injuries, and facilitate healing after accidents or surgery · expand your movement range and promote better alignment · cultivate greater openness, choice, and spontaneity of being Beyond purely physical benefits, feeling at ease in your body and developing better habits of posture and movement can also benefit your general health and emotional wellbeing. Mind and body are integrally connected, and a change in the way you use your body can have far-reaching effects on how you feel. Feeling more balanced in your body can be a support to finding greater mental and emotional stability. The following conditions can often be alleviated through Integrative Bodywork & Movement Therapy: · low self-esteem and lack of confidence · anxiety and depression · stress-related disorders · chronic low energy or hyperactivity Emotions are often held in the body, causing physical tension or pain, and sometimes contributing to the development of ill-health. If you wish to explore the feelings which lie behind your physical symptoms, or the meaning of patterns you may discover through bodywork and movement therapy, you will be given support to do this. |
